About

I have been painting for about 35 years now, beginning originally in oils, then going on to acrylics, first painting for family and friends, then selling from a local coffee shop. I was going along quite nicely for a while then was told I had stage 3 cancer and stopped painting to have treatment and to concentrate on my recovery. After a period of about 3 years I missed my art so much I decided I needed and wanted to get back into it, and needing a new challenge I decided to learn watercolors.....I found the process the total opposite to oils and acrylics, but absolutely loved the excitement and unpredictability of it! I was totally absorbed in this new medium, and started winning prizes and selling my work again, which made me feel great! Then my husband died quite suddenly, and once again I stopped painting, but this time only for about 18 months, this time I was motivated to get back to my art by trying out a box of pastels that had been left to me by a dear friend, who was a beautiful pastel artist. I found that pastels were a great medium for doing fur on animals, and started getting some commissions for animal portraits, and also using graphite, colour pencils and charcoal to achieve some of the effects I wanted. I also played around with mixed media, and started winning prizes at art shows again. So now I find that I use whatever medium suits the subject and I love variety, in medium, colour and subjects.....whether it's landscapes, seascapes, buildings, animal and human portraits, and flowers (I am a florist by trade) I love them all. For me, it's all about the light.....! In 2016 I began and completed over 33 paintings, 7 of those commissions, as I am a very prolific artist, and exhibited in several art shows, winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes as well as selling too. In 2017 I managed to paint 61 artworks including 6 commissions......a busy year! Most of my works are based on my experiences in day to day life and memories including my travels.......last year I went to Greece for a month and managed to paint 8 paintings while I was there which I’d always wanted to do! So there is usually a story behind each of my works....and I love my art! I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I have enjoyed creating it! Thanks for visiting my gallery!
