Kelly's Indigenous side comes from her mum who"s father was born in Wellington (Wiradjuri people), Kellys mum and her family grew up on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). Kelly was inspired to paint throughout her 27-year career with the Army particularly when she was serving her country on Operational deployments in the Middle East (Iraq, Afghanistan and the Greater Middle East). Some people see her art as “graffiti”; she sees it as an “Art of War”, embedded with memories whilst she was serving on those deployments. It reminds her how lucky we are to live on our land, surrounded by sea, while animals run wild and free. Not all countries have the luxury of living the way we do.
