“Vine Bridge” is a mixed‑media, textured abstract on wooden panel that spans 76 cm × 101 cm. Constructed with layered cement, acrylic glazes, wooden batons and metallic patina, the piece charts a precarious but necessary crossing, from initial ash‑grey rungs on the ‘first steps’ at the bottom to radiant gold ‘final steps’ on the far side, in metaphorical risk-versus-reward attainment of the many worthy goals in our lives that require courage and commitment.
Inspiration for the piece comes from a recent trip to the Iya Valley in southern Japan, where the artist crossed its famous vine bridge, experiencing a euphoric sense of accomplishment.
