Crepe Murtle on Pink

The flowers of the suburban Crepe Murtle tree are so delicate and floaty that I just had to paint them in all their glory. This particular branch was a combination of soft mauve and deep purple and structured like a coral growing in the Barrier Reef. I set this arrangement on a bright pink tablecloth to add a modern Matisse atmosphere.

Born in Newcastle NSW I have been influenced by many years at the beach or in the bush, walking and observing our natural paradise.
I am a self taught artist since childhood but trained as a high school art teacher so practiced art for most of my life through either work or privately.
My creative and original artworks are defined by organic and linear shapes that merge and silhouette. They are usually devoid of figurative form and can verge into an imaginative landscape. The approach is layered and combines a variety of mediums drawn or painted over each other to construct the desired essence of my landscape. It is a landscape strongly influenced by an intuitive design sense.
My paintings have found homes in Newcastle, Brisbane , Port Pirie and Sydney.
