Peter was born in Newcastle and studied at the National Art School during the 1970s. He went on to study with renown portrait painter Graeme Inson, in Sydney in the early 1980s.
He has held many one man exhibitions and half shows with other artists during the past 30 years. His first one man show was a sellout with many more successful exhibitions.
Peter has exhibited at many galleries in Australia including
Ridge Street Gallery, Dural Gallery, Southerland Gallery, Prouds Galley, Manyung Gallery, Queens Way Gallery, Cooks Hill Gallery, Buchanan Gallery, and Aarwun Gallery.
Being an exponent of the tonal impressionist school of painting, his paintings are efforts to create a visual poem either about the landscape or his relationship to it as a โsense of placeโ. He is moved by the essentials of the subject, the unsettling abstract shapes, and the elements that combine to express feeling and mood. Peter uses colour, form, texture, and light in a variety of ways. He also uses layer paint applications from thin transparent washes to thick impasto paint to give variety and strength to his works.
Overal several decades Peter had won more than 40 art awards staring in 1980 with the Raymond Terrace Art Show Major Prize. More recently he has won the Dobell Prize at Rathmines, Wyong prize, Beresfield Art Show Major Prize, and many awards in the Hunter Valley.
Peter has paintings in public and private collections.
