Maleny artist Trevor Irvine started painting about 8 years ago with no prior knowledge or experience. His interest developed after trying to help his disabled daughter, Kimberley . She has now retired but he found that he really liked to paint.
His style is developing and he has experimented with all mediums. He likes to paint wildlife in a realistic style however this concept can be demanding and requires a lot of research into the anatomy of the particular animal being painted and concentration to get the right composition, structure and colours. When all this gets too much he likes to creat something freer and to use bold strong colours.
In 2015 he had 2 solo exhibitions in Maleny showing a mixture of his paintings. It exceeded his expectations and was amazed to find there were people out there who liked his work well enough to buy it.
In 2016 he won 2 first prizes at Art Shows as well as a first prize for a landscape painting at the
Royal Agriculture Show, Toowoomba. He was buoyed by this and gave him the incentive to further his artistic pursuits.
Then followed 3 successful Open Studio events in Maleny as a member of Arts Connect Inc.
He has sold his art work at various local art galleries.
In addition to painting he also finds satisfaction in creating 3D sculptures in wood. He finds it satisfying to see a shape emerging from a block of wood. At the same time being able to conceptualise in 3D is very challenging.
