Artwork Description

Trinh’s series of circular paintings is an exploration of what is beyond her own world and other alternative perspective of how she sees the planet and environment she lives in. May it be a perspective looking out into our cosmic atmosphere to a microscopic study or from an aerial view of our landscape, the intention is the same, it is to paint with the limitless possibility of her imagination.

Artist Bio

Creatively compelled and captivated by the science surrounding resin, Melbourne artist Trinh Watson was in a state of irrefutable fascination upon first glance of the medium. Eager to learn the related technique, she approached a resin tutor to assist her early developmental practise, after involvement in furniture design and crafting, and the Melbourne Movement. This was succeeded by the completion of a Diploma in Art Design and Bachelor with Honours in Industrial Design from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology

With inspirations derived from her bayside residence, and seascapes photographed during respites and travel expeditions, Trinh’s works summon her perception of the sea’s momentum and magnitude. Largely comparable to geographical aerial imagery, her works depict some of the most intricately fantastical scapes one can imagine. Through her elegant resin distribution method, and her conscientious colour selections, she encapsulates the emotional content, physical sensation and environmental wonderment of the sea and the shore.

After study and experimentation with inks to ascertain the colour composition most reflective of the inspiration source, Trinh tests the resin to dictate colour intensity and determine the relationship one hue has against another. A highly time and temperature sensitive substance, that renders a varying result each time it descends onto her board, her scapes contain tenacious elements of unpredictability and impulsivity, much like the sea itself
