The original painting has been sold.To be honest, I’m not sure myself why I painted crows into this piece. I had planned on an owl, but these two appeared instead so I thought I’d do some research on the symbolism of the crow. I found there is a wealth of legend and symbolism surrounding this bird however all legends seem to agree that the crow is the harbinger that guides souls from the realm of the living to the afterlife. The crow has long been known to appear when death is near and it will also come soon after someone has died, bringing a profound confirmation and symbolism of rebirth for that person which I found comforting particularly in light of the fact that I painted this piece not long after my mother’s death. This painting marked the beginning of my crow paintings.
