I’m an intuitive mixed media artist who works in a loose abstract style.
I have a background in interior design running a Melbourne based practice and specialising in the use of colour in residential interiors. Having this background my work reflects my relationship with colour and my desire to make a beautiful home. It’s important to me to create pieces with a sense of harmony, rhythm and feeling whilst not overwhelming a space. Most of my pieces tend to evoke the landscape in unusual and unexpected ways and I am always hoping to create a a sense of balance, rest and sometimes raw energy.
As I work with mixed media I predominantly use acrylic paints but I also integrate, oil sticks, crayons, paint pens, pastels and other media together with a whole range of different tools gradually building up layers. I work intuitively and non-representationally, which in non-art speak means I don't set out to paint something specific, I generally begin with a colour palette and begin the oiece with large gestural marks. I then intuitively respond to what is on the canvas and continue with the process building a piece with many layers and detail.
Having moved from Melbourne to the mid-north coast of NSW some years ago, I've had the opportunity and enjoyed great success participating in 5 solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions at our local gallery in South West Rocks (a small sea-side village) and also at the Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery over the last 4 years.
