Ty is an internationally awarded aerial photographer who specialises in creating abstract renditions of our vast landscape. In 2019, Ty was awarded winner of the Australian Emerging Photographer of the Year - Landscape in 2019 and the overall runner up of the same year.
Born in South Africa, Ty Stedman became enamoured with the natural world from an early age. His enthusiasm for exploration, attention to detail, and education in the sciences, ultimately led to a pursuit of photography.
Influenced by minimalist expressions, his primary passion is capturing Australia and New Zealand’s varied landscapes from small aircraft, combing for graphic and geometric forms, and intricate details that escape the everyday view.
In 2018, Ty was awarded the International Photography Awards (IPA) Winter Sports Winner, IPA Fine Art: Abstract Runner-up, Australian Photography Awards Landscape Finalist, and was selected for the LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards.
In 2019, he was selected as a Landscape Finalist for the Head On Photography Awards and was awarded the 2019 Prix de la Photographie Awards, Paris (PX3), Fine Art Photographer of the Year. Locally, he was awarded the Australasian Emerging Photographer of the Year - landscape winner and overall runner-up.
Ty’s work has been exhibited in Australia, France, Spain and the USA.
He holds the Associate designation with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography, as well as the Master of Photography (with Distinction) designation, with the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography.
In 2020, Ty founded TAKUMI Studio, a fine art printing studio that has benefited him with the ultimate control over the printing of his work. He also works closely with other Australian photographers and artists.
Ty currently lives in Busselton, WA.
