My painting inspired by Grand Canyon walk which explores the genre of romantic landscape paining which reflects a comfort within the place. It conjures up a sense of time brings about feeling of detail and drama. The long shadows and warm glows evoke a lazy summer afternoon with a sense of forest scent and sound.
I wanted the painting to soak up the atmosphere, to show the forest life, the colour and the breath of wind. The water is still, silent and deep. moving trees are caught in transient reflection. I can’t but engage with this special place because it’s such an ancient landscape, layered with history, but also myth, generating from this place.
Which is rapidly disappearing and I wanted to capture before its gone. I feel we all owe something to this space in terms of how we have destroyed our natural beauty by deforestation. Beauty remains in this place.
