Artwork Description

This painting is a dynamic fusion of traditional Chinese calligraphy and expressive modern art. The central phrase “如愿” (rú yuàn) translates to “as one wishes”, symbolizing the realization of heartfelt desires and the fulfillment of aspirations. The bold brushstrokes in black ink command attention, while the background—awash with splashes of red, pink, and soft greys—adds layers of emotional texture, suggesting both struggle and triumph. Ink splatters and sweeping lines create a sense of movement and spontaneity, echoing the unpredictable journey toward achieving one’s dreams. The red seal adds an authentic touch, grounding the work in traditional aesthetics while embracing contemporary expression.

Artist Bio

Vivien | Contemporary Artist

Vivien is a contemporary artist whose creative journey began with pencil sketches during her teenage years in China. After moving to Australia in the early 1990s, she pursued a two-year Diploma of Art at RMIT, where her early artistic experiences laid the foundation for a lifelong passion for creative expression.

Her multidisciplinary practice has evolved across photo styling, photography, pastel, acrylic and, most recently, watercolor. Through these diverse mediums, Vivien explores the interplay between colour, light, emotion and imagination, allowing each work to develop its own visual language.

For Vivien, art is more than decoration; it is a form of visual poetry. Her work explores themes of identity, spirituality and the transformative power of art, inviting viewers to pause, reflect and connect with their own experiences and emotions.

Vivien has exhibited her work at a number of Australian art shows and exhibitions, including the Camberwell Art Show, Mornington Art Show and Malvern Artists’ Society (MAS), among others.

Her artistic practice is driven by a desire to create works that resonate beyond the surface—works that capture moments of beauty, evoke emotion and encourage reflection on the richness and complexity of life.
