In architecture, the arch serves to lift the eye and spirit upwards to a higher plane or ideal. They are symbolic of strength and support, lightness and openness, a beginning and an end. Arches are viewed as entry points into liminal space - a void between time and place. Are you intrigued to see what's on the other side?
I am fascinated by curves and archways in architecture as they bring a sense of fluidity, playfulness and softness. A part of buildings and spaces throughout the course of history, they are universal structures and symbolic in many cultures to this day.
This painting is partly 3D in nature with layers of wood collage and woven wool to add shadows, texture and interesting detail. The painting continues around the sides and edges to enhance its presence and provide a different point of view as you move around the room.
The composition, texture and colour in this work draws you in to explore further and spark your imagination. A great conversation starter and burst of colour that will elevate any space.
