Artwork Description

Coastal Geometry is part of an ongoing series investigating the Australian landscape through the language of minimalism and geometric abstraction. The painting reinterprets a familiar coastal scene, distilling cliffs, shoreline, ocean, and sky into a balance of simplified forms, textured surfaces, and carefully considered colour relationships.
Drawing inspiration from both contemporary abstraction and the vastness of the Australian environment, the work explores the tension between structure and nature. Organic landforms are translated into geometric divisions, while subtle textural variations preserve a sense of movement and atmosphere. The palette reflects the warmth of sunlit cliffs, the coolness of ocean water, and the expansive light unique to Australia's coastlines.
A small kangaroo appears within the composition as a symbolic presence rather than a narrative subject. Its scale emphasizes the immensity of the landscape and invites contemplation of humanity's relationship with the natural world. The figure becomes a quiet marker of place, grounding the abstract elements within a distinctly Australian context.
Through its combination of minimalist design, textured surfaces, and contemporary colour fields, Coastal Geometry seeks to create a feeling of calm, openness, and belonging—an abstract reflection of Australia's enduring landscapes.

Artist Bio

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit my page!

I am a self-taught artist based in Perth, Western Australia. My work is rooted in Impressionism, with a strong focus on landscapes, while also allowing space for experimentation with abstract and minimalist figurative forms.

I have been painting since childhood, and over time my style has evolved into a blend of classic Impressionist techniques and modern vibrancy. While largely self-taught, I have taken classes and workshops with various artists over the years and continue to study and learn through ongoing instruction. I primarily work with oil on canvas and wood panels, using varied underpainting methods and thick, textured brushstrokes to capture the shifting moods of nature.

I draw inspiration from the diverse landscapes of Western Australia — from bright, open beaches to the deep blues of the Indian Ocean. Alongside landscape painting, I also explore abstract minimalist and figurative art as a way to celebrate Australian nature beyond literal representation.

My aim is not only to express what I see, but what I feel — translating light, movement, and emotion into color and texture.
