Artwork Description

This painting captures the tranquil beauty of a moonlit coastline through a language of simplicity and colour. Layers of rich ultramarine, indigo, and teal are arranged in broad horizontal bands, reducing the landscape to its essential elements—sky, sea, shore, and light.

At the centre of the composition, a luminous moon hovers above the horizon, casting a shimmering pathway of reflected light across the dark water. Thick, textured brushwork adds depth and movement while preserving the painting's minimalist character. The contrast between the vast expanse of deep blues and the warm glow of moonlight creates a quiet sense of wonder and serenity.

Inspired by the timeless stillness of coastal evenings, Moonlit Horizon invites the viewer into a contemplative space where light, colour, and atmosphere become the subject. The work balances abstraction and landscape, making it both a modern statement piece and a meditation on nature's enduring beauty.

Moonlit Horizon is a contemporary minimalist seascape celebrating the quiet magic of moonlight on water. Rich layers of deep blue and emerald tones create a sense of depth and atmosphere, while a single luminous moon becomes the focal point of the composition. Textured surfaces and simplified forms allow the painting to feel both modern and timeless. Designed to bring calm, sophistication, and a sense of escape into contemporary interiors, this work is part of an ongoing exploration of light, horizon, and the Australian coastline.

Artist Bio

Vasil (Vasily) Kulchenkois a contemporary artist based in Western Australia, creating original paintings inspired by the vast landscapes, coastline and unique light of Australia. His work transforms familiar scenery into refined minimalist compositions using geometric forms, rich texture and a carefully balanced palette.

Originally trained in classical and impressionist painting, Vasil has developed a distinctive contemporary style that combines abstraction, cubist influences and expressive texture. Rather than capturing every detail, his paintings focus on atmosphere, space and the emotional connection between people and the Australian landscape. Small figures or wildlife often appear within expansive compositions, inviting viewers to pause and imagine their own place within the scene.

Drawing inspiration from the Karri forests of Pemberton, the rugged coastline of Western Australia, the outback and Australia's iconic wildlife, each painting seeks to evoke a sense of calm, openness and quiet beauty. Heavy palette-knife textures and confident brushwork create depth and movement while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic suited to contemporary interiors.

Vasil's work is held in private collections throughout Australia and internationally. Every painting is an original, created with professional-quality materials and designed to bring warmth, character and a lasting connection to the Australian landscape into the home.
