Sydney born, Vicki has always had a hankering to paint (and travel). She has lived in most States of Australia, as well as in Borneo, Indonesia. She and her husband spent 5 years travelling and fulltime pet/housesitting up and down the East coast of Australia, from Hervey Bay, Qld, to Tasmania from 2013-2018.
Vicki has felt a need to paint since her early childhood and although she has “dabbled” in various forms of art (folk art, ceramics, mosaic, sculpture) since the early 90’s, a strong desire to learn to paint has always been her ultimate wish. Forever grateful for a comment from a friend, “what are you waiting for”; this was the impetus to make it a priority.
Largely self taught, Vicki tended to join art groups, art classes or workshops in each location she was housesitting. This has given her exposure to a wide variety of tutors and techniques. She finds there is always something new to learn and experiment with. Tutors, include Terry Jarvis (Bendigo, Vic), Helen Cottle (Macedon Ranges, Vic), Glenda Cornell (Echuca, Vic), Annette Raff (Gold Coast), John Turton (Northern NSW), Herman Pekel, Tony Smibert, John Lovett and Tony White (Tas).
Photography and travel are other passions, both of which provide a wealth of inspiration. Vicki has been taking photos for many years, whilst living and holidaying in many parts of Australia, as well as Asia, Africa and Europe.
She loves colour and experimentation. Many things excite her to paint: morning light, afternoon light, reflections on a muddy track, morning fog swirling around haybales, the grandeur of granite rocks, sunrise, sunset, a breathtaking view, big skies, stormy skies, oceans, rivers, local birdlife, native gums; her inspiration is endless. Vicki loves working in watercolour, Caran d'Ache NeocolorII water soluble wax pastels, watercolour pencil, acrylic, pastels and charcoal.
Vicki has sold a number of paintings (both local and overseas) and has been commissioned numerous times.
Now resident in southern Tasmania, Vicki is an exhibiting member of the Tasmanian Art Society in Hobart, a member of Urban Sketchers Hobart, POGO (Painters of the Great Outdoors) and her local art group West Winds Art Group.
