Artwork Description

Restful little duotone in earthy colours, of iconic scene driving Australian highways home from summer holiday. Four in the set available.

This little series celebrates the duotone landscape of the grass plains around the Numeralla area of NSW which are an iconic part of the drive from my ACT home to the NSW snowy mountains or coast. They were painted immediately after the bushfires of Summer 2020 with the smoke haze still softening the colours creating an interesting muted blend of ochres and blues. Along the drive are little homesteads seen from the highway, many with the multi colours of farmyard junk, or flashes of green irrigated fields, which can be adorable at this scale and show up in other pieces in this series.

I had a very clear vision for a quaint little set that will sit sweetly in a minimalist decor, or small space. At 17cm x 17cm each, including frame, you can purchase singles or 2-4 for a particular space. **If purchasing more than one please email me first so I can work with Bluethumb to reduce the shipping cost per item.

FUN FACT: there is also an original dollhouse version of this same scene, painted to dollhouse scale at 7x5cm. Available at my Etsy shop, Victorias Studio Shop (www.etsy.com/au/shop/VictoriasStudioShop).

I recommend hanging with adhesive picture hangers so they sit flat against the wall.

Artist Bio

From my studio in Canberra, Australia I work to create ethereal abstract nature paintings that echo that feeling of ease and wellness that twinkles through you when you stop in a pocket of forest or under a tree, stepping into Earth’s embrace. I would love to show you around my studio in person. Meantime, please enjoy exploring this virtual shop, zoom in, peer close, and reach out with any questions.

In the tangle of the forest understorey, the connectivity of all things is most apparent to me. The sense of oneness and gentle alive-ness leads me to create layers of subtle, organic marks that invite the viewer in, like we lean in to listen when someone speaks softly. Paint is added or removed, responding to the moment; some things from life, some imagined, as though co-creating, until this pocket of wilderness is formed enough to hold us. Final flecks of colour are allowed to skip across the surface like sunlight on leaf, web or tiny wing. I’m exploring the concept of Nature as divinity, accessed by grounding in the wild-grown Earth that is the ancestral home for our species. The result, I hope, is artwork with a sense of the ethereal; that is somehow both divine-uplift and soft-landing – like opening the door to home.
