Artwork Description

Phosphorescence II alcohol ink on yupo 21 x 29.4 cm Framed 29.7 x 42 cm. Warm tones of copper, cappuccino, black ink, pearlescent green patina, and titanium white are the moody palette of this underwater coral abstract artwork. The phosphorescence of the bleached out coral is indicative of the phenomenon that occurs in the Australia coral reefs, a sign of what once was, is now transformed and brought back to a new life.

Artist Bio

Based in Hunter Valley Wine Country, the Australian Landscape is a reoccurring theme of my artworks. After studying at the University of Newcastle and Charles Sturt, I developed my sculptural and jewellery manufacturing skills before teaching Visual Arts in the Upper and Lower Hunter regions of NSW. The beauty and unique qualities of the Australian Landscape became apparent while I was travelling throughout the United States and Canada. The expansive coastlines and natural lakes that define the environment along side hidden valleys and majestic mountainous ranges are a constant source of inspiration. Ancient gemstones and my jewellery making practice are strongly referenced in the abstract compositions. An obsession with colour and textural qualities are explored through my delicate chalk pastel works, the bold expressive alcohol ink series and my fluid acrylic and mixed media collections.
