Artwork Description

What is a 'good mother'?
One who raises her young to take risks, explore and learn from their mistakes.
OR is a 'good mother' one who hides behind a facade that she has the 'perfect' family.
This mother is in despair, she hides behind her tattoos, which are masking her body, but her face is untouched. Untouched but revealing her emotions. She cannot hide, she is filled with sadness holding back her tears.
Perfection isn't always evident to the naked eye.

Artist Bio

Born in Melbourne in 1965 to Greek parents.
I started painting in my late teens as a way of exploring cultural, sexual, and gender relations, blurring reality and fantasy, creating my own make-believe world. My own Dream Realism.
The style of my work blends Surrealist and Expressionist elements with themes from mythology, converging with my personal interest in exploring social narratives - from the taboo through to gender politics - whilst celebrating our oneness with the natural world.
The work at first glance appears lyrical and fantastical, but when looking closer there is a deeper tale to be told.
