Artwork Description

A work of contrasts and high tactile appeal. The inspiration behind it is weathered surfaces that have seen the passage of time and either withstood their ground or peeled away. This would sit equally well in a room with bright light or one with areas of quiet repose and atmospheric lighting.

This work has been produced on a wood panel, is framed and ready to hang.

Artist Bio

I am a self-taught artist. I began my journey painting porcelain in Geneva in 2014 but have since been painting in acrylics, oils and watercolours. I am inspired by everyday beauty, the kind that is ever-present in my surroundings. I am deeply moved by the transformative power of light in my physical space and this drives my passion to paint. I love painting scenes of natural beauty as much as I enjoy painting urban scenes. In these works, my aim is to convey an emotional response to a physical scene rather than merely presenting an accurate representation of it. In both my still lifes and landscape paintings, light and shadow are key players.

I do not restrict myself to a specific style or subject matter, deriving a keen enjoyment from all avenues of creative work. My abstract paintings are works of meditation that come about as a result of obsessive internal dialogues about modern life, the passage of time and faith.

I have travelled and lived for many years in Europe, the Middle East and Pakistan so the influences in my work are varied and diverse. Follow my journey on Instagram @artwaqeea or check out my website https://www.artwaqeea.com/
