Artwork Description

This work uses a common internet search result to represent the barriers that corporations and/or governments use to control people. A world in which, ostensibly, there is a freedom of expression and information, the metaphorical experience of a brick wall, beyond which you and I may not proceed comes as a rude shock.

This work was a finalist in the Hornsby Art Prize, 2022.

Artist Bio

I am a self-taught artist. I began my journey painting porcelain in Geneva in 2014 but have since been painting in acrylics, oils and watercolours. I am inspired by everyday beauty, the kind that is ever-present in my surroundings. I am deeply moved by the transformative power of light in my physical space and this drives my passion to paint. I love painting scenes of natural beauty as much as I enjoy painting urban scenes. In these works, my aim is to convey an emotional response to a physical scene rather than merely presenting an accurate representation of it. In both my still lifes and landscape paintings, light and shadow are key players.

I do not restrict myself to a specific style or subject matter, deriving a keen enjoyment from all avenues of creative work. My abstract paintings are works of meditation that come about as a result of obsessive internal dialogues about modern life, the passage of time and faith.

I have travelled and lived for many years in Europe, the Middle East and Pakistan so the influences in my work are varied and diverse. Follow my journey on Instagram @artwaqeea or check out my website https://www.artwaqeea.com/
