Artwork Description

A house that felt like a piece of Italy in Australia. I came upon it on my morning walk as it stood on a quiet cul-de-sac in the clear morning light, the curlicues of its wrought iron gate calling to another world where cool shadows played just beyond, beneath the arches.

This is a cheerful little painting that feels like opening a window to the street outside. It is varnished, framed in a charming oak frame and ready to hang.

Artist Bio

I am a self-taught artist. I began my journey painting porcelain in Geneva in 2014 but have since been painting in acrylics, oils and watercolours. I am inspired by everyday beauty, the kind that is ever-present in my surroundings. I am deeply moved by the transformative power of light in my physical space and this drives my passion to paint. I love painting scenes of natural beauty as much as I enjoy painting urban scenes. In these works, my aim is to convey an emotional response to a physical scene rather than merely presenting an accurate representation of it. In both my still lifes and landscape paintings, light and shadow are key players.

I do not restrict myself to a specific style or subject matter, deriving a keen enjoyment from all avenues of creative work. My abstract paintings are works of meditation that come about as a result of obsessive internal dialogues about modern life, the passage of time and faith.

I have travelled and lived for many years in Europe, the Middle East and Pakistan so the influences in my work are varied and diverse. Follow my journey on Instagram @artwaqeea or check out my website https://www.artwaqeea.com/
