Artwork Description

“Interconnectedness”

Interconnectedness refers to the manner in which a group of objects interact with one another to form a complex whole that operates as system.”

This painting represents the Interconnected nature of humanity.
We come from all parts of the World. We have different cultures, we have different faiths , we have different geographical environments in which we live , we have different issues affecting our lives.
We are One family that need each other to exist.
At the centre of the painting I have painted a Waterhole. Water is the “Giver of Life”.
If we didn’t have fresh water on this planet we call Earth there would not be life at all.
Our Planet and its environment is dictated and shaped by water. The ecosystems with all the plants & animals purely exist because of water. The land has been shaped and formed by water. We all need water.

Surrounding the waterhole I have painted people represented by the U shapes.
So the people coming to the waterhole is part of the symbolism that we all no matter where we come from in the world, need this life giving water to exist.

Finally around the outside of the People & waterhole I have painted many circles Large , Medium & small connected in many directions by lines. These circles represent the many hundreds of thousands of camps, villages, towns, cities and countries around the world from in which we all reside. The lines connecting are the Bidi (Tracks, paths, roads) that people use to commute & travel between these places everyday.

It is in each of these places that our lives and our existence is dependant upon others in our communities to work together to create a social cohesion which enables these communities to grow food to eat , make clothes to wear , construct buildings for shelter, create common rules & laws to live by etc.... We simply cannot exist on our own as we are dependent upon others to create , make and grow the things we need to live.

The lines linking the circles are representative of the tracks, roads, railways, flight paths that connect all of our camps, villages, towns, cities and countries.
These tracks , paths , roads are also what connect us all to a common humanity.

My use of Gold leaf foil in this painting is symbolic of the purity & preciousness of intrinsic Human nature.
