The gorge (No. 2) is the third work in the Plains of the earth series. The other three works in the series are; Towards Blue Gum Forest, the gorge (No. 1), and Mt Hay. The print is from a coloured pencil drawing made at a spot on the escarpment overlooking the Grose River near Mt Hay in the Blue Mountains National Park. The Blue Mountains National Park is part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.
The whole series is an extensive view of the Grose River Valley, and is a meditation on the beauty of the Australian land, its spiritual power, and world heritage value.
The series was done over 18 months. I camped for weeks at a time and drew the valley and hills for hours each day. The seasons changed, the plateau made its own weather, and as the light shifted memories passed. The drawing remained, connecting me through making marks on paper to a natural place of great power and beauty. A wonderful experience.
Each print is made using the services of a highly skilled and experienced specialist fine art printer using the best printing technology to ensure the highest, archival, quality.
