Having lived in Tasmania for most of my life, my younger years were spent in and out of hospital with pneumonia. While recouping, drawing became my source of something to do. As I got older, drawing and creating was I could see doing for the rest of my life and when I left high school in 1984, all I wanted to be was a cartoonist. I started full time studies at T.A.F.E. School of Art where my major subject was painting, this opened up a new way of creating for me. It was not until the pandemic. that my way of thinking would expand even more as I started a full time course online through Curtin University. Their teachings helped to think outside of the box. It was during the second year, that with one of my classes that I came up with an idea of incorporating pull rings into paintings. It was a simplified idea back then and I could not wait to finish my Bachelors so that I could pursue my idea and explore it even more. For me it is a great way to make art by using materials that would be recycled. Pull rings for me have and interesting texture after it has been applied to the canvas. I continue to develop my techniques with each project that I start and who knows where it will lead.
