This series depicts examples of rugged Australian landscape influenced by the hinterlands and ranges of South East Queensland. This is part of a series that has taken its inspiration from the way light falls across the landscape especially over rugged escarpments, boulders, waterfalls and treelines. These paintings provide a portal into the scenic imagery of country and with the expressive painterly technique the ruggedness is carried through in the gestural mark making and build up of texture which is added layer upon layer giving the painting a rich opulent feel, The use of multiple glazes and washes combine to create a rich luminosity especially when highlighted with good lighting.
