What a ride....
Hi...my name is Wendy
I grew up on a farm in rural WA, then marrying a farmer in the same region we raised our 2 children on our farm.
We moved to Broome in 2010, wow !! that was an exciting move.
While living and working the Kimberley region I felt a strong emotional connection growing with the natural environment I was living in.
In 2017 I had an overpowering intuitive prompt to take up art, this was totally foreign to me as it was not something I had been involved with since primary school ( I might add that it was definitely not my favourite subject at school).
So my Artistic journey began, totally out of the blue in Broome March 2017.
I believe that I was given my artistic gift to help me express my experiences and feelings while gaining a deeper understanding of myself.
It has been a rollercoaster ride, plenty of ups and downs, I have learnt that this is all part of this magical journey, it is these moments that I feel strong growth as an artist.
Our time in the Kimberley had come to an end, so 11 years later we began a new journey when moved to Margaret River in October 2020, where I have now become awestruck by the forest and coastline of the Southwest.
During my painting sessions I experience strong emotions, it is these connections that evolve into my finished Artwork.
Generating that same feeling within another person is one of the reasons I am an artist.
We may not interpret the piece the same, which is great, however we will feel that same connection.
Through Art I have learnt to let go of self-imposed boundaries and trust my process.
The so called “imperfections” in my world have become a strong part of my Art process, I love the abruptness of the not so perfect, the paradoxes that exist in my Art all come together to form my finished pieces.
I now embrace my process which involves a loved and not so loved relationship within the multiple layers, while allowing them to merge through a process of glazing and layering so they can join forces to create my finished piece.
My Art practice is intuitive Abstract and Contemporary, which comes from my observations of human emotions and my love of the natural world locally and globally.
I have completed several commissioned pieces of art, where I was given a free rein to create with very minimal brief involved. It was an incredible process which I enjoyed, it totally pulled me from any comfort zone that I was sitting in.
Predominantly working in Acrylic paint and Ink, with the addition of soft pastels, Acrylic pen, Charcoal and Graphite powders.
I will often incorporate the use of Gel and paste mediums to stimulate the sense of touch and imagination. I mainly work on canvas and linen, however I am now loving incorporating a variety of cotton and Japanese paper .
