Botanical Love

Where there are flowers there is light. Where there is light there is shade, my aim is to show this in my botanical work, the contrast of light and shade in dramatic detail.

This piece, titled Midnight Blooms explores the captivating contrast between the vibrant energy of flowers and the serene depth of the dark teal blue background. Loose brushstrokes dance across a canvas of deep teal blue, creating a sense of mystery and tranquillity. Three blooms, rendered in a palette of pinks and corals are captivating. Three beautiful Icelandic poppies in close focus with greenery in the background, fine detail showing the delicate pleats of the petals, in warm tones of burnt sienna, warm pinks. The light hitting the petals creates wonderful shadows throughout the painting. With a dark background of black and dark green leaves in shadow the poppies really jump off the canvas.
