Just as musicians are sensitive to sounds, for me, as a visual artist, it is an aesthetic sense, an extra sensitivity to design, colour, and balance.
Inspiration is sometimes quite a mystery. However, in my case, it is drawn from a myriad of life experiences, optimism, personal observations and travel, all in unison with a zest for life.
Painting is a balancing act as I shift between different mediums and genres, encompassing diverse themes, compositions, and techniques.
My work has a skeleton of drawing, whatever it is. Colour skills, stylistic techniques, and a narrative of sorts all morph to achieve creative clarity, evoking a mood, a sense of place, and the intrinsic nature of the moment.
During the early nineties, I began collaborating with art licensing agents in Australia and the United States. For decades, my images and designs have appeared on a range of merchandise in Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia.
My passion for art goes back to my early childhood, which I spent on a remote farming property near Old Junee, NSW. Due to the isolation, I spent hours drawing and painting during those years.
I completed my secondary education at Wagga High School in the sixties and then studied Business Studies at Wagga Commercial College. I later studied Fashion (Drafting and Design) and Fine Art in Sydney (Associate Diploma in Fine Art).
During the early seventies, I immersed myself in life in London and Europe, engaging in work and travel while soaking up the exhilarating spirit of the time. For several years, I lived and worked in Mallorca, part of the Balearic Islands, which significantly influenced my creativity.
Mallorca remains my favourite escape.
I have lived in Avalon since 1997, where my studio is located.
