As an artist, I find immense joy in capturing the essence of simple, yet profound moments in life. My mixed media painting, a semi-abstract artwork, depicts a delightful day out having a picnic. All the lovely things are laid out on the picnic rug, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the scene. The use of bold, solid colours combined with intricate pencil work brings this piece to life, creating a vibrant and dynamic composition.
Picnics are a beautiful way to bring families together. Children play, parents chat, and there is a sharing of family values that is both heart-warming and timeless. This painting aims to encapsulate that sense of togetherness and joy.
During a recent visit to Argentina, I was struck by the number of families gathered in green spaces by the side of the road, often near motorways. They were having picnics, playing with kites and footballs, and it was lovely to see the connections among these people. This experience deeply influenced my work, inspiring me to create this piece that celebrates the simple pleasures of life and the bonds that unite us.
In this artwork, you will find a colourful array of picnic items, abstractly arranged yet instantly recognisable. The interplay of colours and textures invites the viewer to explore the painting, discovering new details with each glance. This piece is not just a visual representation but a celebration of family, connection, and the joy of shared moments.

Artwork Description
Artist Bio
Best known for her whimsical, bright, boat and fish compositions, Wendy Eriksson creates images with successive layers of mixed media with an interest in spontaneity. Her colourful works are expressive and dramatic with an emphasis on the energy of the painter’s mark. She finds the artistic process exciting as it opens the gates for happy accidents that extend beyond just the materials.
She also investigates themes of the Australian Outback as they relate to rural life and an ever changing environment. Works such as the “Flooded Plains” series, with imagery composed of dots, colours, line work and abstract patterning, yield a complex ancient journey.
Wendy continues to explore a fascination with life on and under the water.
