As an artist, I find immense joy in exploring the intricate layers and textures that can be achieved through mixed media. My artwork, Twisting Tea Threads, is a semi-abstract piece that delves into the rich tradition of sharing tea. This piece is a celebration of the communal and comforting nature of tea time, depicted through a vibrant interplay of colours and textures.
In creating Twisting Tea Threads, I employed a variety of techniques to build a multi-dimensional experience. The artwork features numerous layers, each with windows that offer glimpses into the depths below. I utilised printmaking and transfer techniques, along with scraping back areas to reveal hidden elements. The use of diverse drawing materials adds to the textural complexity, making the piece a tactile journey for the viewer.
The colour palette of pink, red, black and white is bold and dynamic, with fluid strokes and blocks of vivid colour that draw the eye and evoke a sense of movement and energy. This combination of colours and techniques creates a lively and engaging composition that invites viewers to explore the layers and discover the nuances within.
