Artwork Description

As an artist, I am deeply fascinated by the interplay of shapes, colours and textures, and this mixed media painting, Whimsical Whirlwind, is a reflection of that fascination.

This artwork is created using a number of layers with windows through to the layers below, employing print making, transfer techniques, scraping back areas and many types of drawing materials to create a multi-textural art piece.

A bright, jolly flower painting, Whimsical Whirlwind captures the essence of spring with its vibrant colours and dynamic composition. The interplay of pinks, blues and yellows, intertwined with bold black lines, creates a sense of movement and joy.

Each layer reveals a new depth, inviting the viewer to explore the intricate details and textures. This piece is a celebration of nature's beauty and the renewal that comes with spring.

Through this painting, I aim to explore the boundaries of abstraction and challenge the viewer's perception of order and chaos, creating a harmonious yet unpredictable visual experience.

Artist Bio

Best known for her whimsical, bright, boat and fish compositions, Wendy Eriksson creates images with successive layers of mixed media with an interest in spontaneity. Her colourful works are expressive and dramatic with an emphasis on the energy of the painter’s mark. She finds the artistic process exciting as it opens the gates for happy accidents that extend beyond just the materials.

She also investigates themes of the Australian Outback as they relate to rural life and an ever changing environment. Works such as the “Flooded Plains” series, with imagery composed of dots, colours, line work and abstract patterning, yield a complex ancient journey.

Wendy continues to explore a fascination with life on and under the water.
