A View from Miyajima

This was painted after visiting the photogenic island of Miyajima, off the coast of Hiroshima, Japan. This painting shows the famous floating Torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine on the island of Miyajima. When the tide is in, water surrounds the famous Torri gate, giving it the appearance of floating.

This painting is acrylic on stretched canvas, sealed with gloss varnish. It is wired and ready to hang.

The gallery-wrapped edges of the canvas are painted, so there is no need for framing.

Wendy now lives in Hobart, Tasmania, but she grew up in tropical North Queensland, so the flora and fauna of that region feature heavily in her work. She works mainly with heavy-bodied acrylics, applying the paint impasto style to create texture. She loves using bright colours, and is not afraid to get her hands dirty, as she often uses her hands and fingers instead of brushes!
