Artwork Description

Painted during live painting demonstration for my 2018 solo exhibition, 'Creatures of the Deep' at the Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart.
Blue Bottle Facts:
Scientific name: Physalia physalis

Found in the ‘Sunlight Zone’

Did you know? The Blue Bottle is not a jellyfish at all, but a siphonophore? In fact, one Blue Bottle is not a single organism, but a colony of organisms, known as zooids! One colony is made up of many different types of zooids, each type having a specific function, such as stinging or digesting!

This painting is acrylic on stretched canvas, sealed with gloss varnish. It is wired and ready to hang.

The gallery-wrapped edges of the canvas are painted, so there is no need for framing.

Artist Bio

Wendy now lives in Hobart, Tasmania, but she grew up in tropical North Queensland, so the flora and fauna of that region feature heavily in her work. She works mainly with heavy-bodied acrylics, applying the paint impasto style to create texture. She loves using bright colours, and is not afraid to get her hands dirty, as she often uses her hands and fingers instead of brushes!
