Common Fangtooth

This artwork was created for my 2018 solo exhibition, 'Creatures of the Deep' at the Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart.

Common Fangtooth Facts:
Scientific name: Anoplogaster cornuta

Inhabits the ‘Twilight Zone’. (Found mainly between depths of 200m and 2,000m below the surface. Has been observed as deep as 5,000m below the surface).

Did you know? The appropriately named Fangtooth’s teeth are the largest of any ocean fish, in proportion to body size! In fact, they are so large, the Fangtooth can never completely close its mouth!

This painting is acrylic on stretched canvas, sealed with gloss varnish. It is wired and ready to hang.

The gallery-wrapped edges of the canvas are painted, so there is no need for framing.

Wendy now lives in Hobart, Tasmania, but she grew up in tropical North Queensland, so the flora and fauna of that region feature heavily in her work. She works mainly with heavy-bodied acrylics, applying the paint impasto style to create texture. She loves using bright colours, and is not afraid to get her hands dirty, as she often uses her hands and fingers instead of brushes!
