This artwork was featured in the artist's 2024 solo exhibition, Living Ghosts: Above and Below the Waves, held at the Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart, Tasmania. The exhibition focused on Tasmania's threatened and endangered marine species, highlighting the urgent need for conservation to prevent their disappearance.
The piece depicts the White-bellied Sea-Eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster), which is classified as Vulnerable in Tasmania.
The White-bellied Sea Eagle is a large raptor with a wingspan of up to 220cm. Although the species inhabits coastal regions across Australian and Asia, there are believed to be less than 900 individuals left in Tasmania. The species is under threat due to habitat destruction, nest disturbance, poisoning, collision with power lines and wind turbines, and pollution.
Conservation efforts to save the White-bellied Sea-Eagle include habitat protection, population monitoring, education, and mortality mitigation efforts.
Created using mixed media (paper, gouache and acrylic) on recycled board, the artwork is ready to hang.
In support of conservation efforts to protect Tasmaniaโs endangered marine life, 25% of the proceeds from this piece will be donated to the Australian Marine Conservation Society.
