Pacific Nettles #2

This artwork was created for my 2018 solo exhibition, 'Creatures of the Deep' at the Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart.

Pacific Sea Nettles Facts:
Scientific name: Chrysaora fuscescens

Inhabits the ‘Sunlight Zone’ (usually found in surface waters, but may travel as deep as 1000m below the surface)

Did you know? The Sea Nettle’s long tentacles may look pretty, but they pack a punch! Up to 5 metres long, they are laden with stinging cells, which inject powerful neurotoxins into any prey (or person) that it touches. Ouch!

This painting is acrylic on stretched canvas, sealed with gloss varnish. It is wired and ready to hang.

The gallery-wrapped edges of the canvas are painted, so there is no need for framing.

Wendy now lives in Hobart, Tasmania, but she grew up in tropical North Queensland, so the flora and fauna of that region feature heavily in her work. She works mainly with heavy-bodied acrylics, applying the paint impasto style to create texture. She loves using bright colours, and is not afraid to get her hands dirty, as she often uses her hands and fingers instead of brushes!
