Flame Trees at Mentone 2

Prior to moving to Melbourne, even in my time in Sydney, I’d never seen an Illawarra Flame Tree. Not far from my home is a park and playground with a row of fairly young trees. I’d walked past them many times, not really noticing them, until suddenly they were in flower! Splendid! I was blown away by their flush of colour. In these paintings I hope to capture some of their splendour.

WilhelminaM is an emerging artist experimenting with gouache, ink sketch and watercolour. Born in The Netherlands, grew up in nipaluna/Hobart and now resides on Boonwurrung country in Southeast Melbourne. She is self taught and currently paints and sketches still life, landscapes, portraits and figures; and would love time for ceramics and sculpture. WilhelminaM’s still life work explores time, silence, simplicity and pause through the interplay of light, shadow and form. Her portraits explore complexity. Her landscapes, scenes and figures capture experiences and memories. WilhelminaM also uses watercolour and ink sketches for surface design and has had a few of her fabric designs licensed for apparel.
