Sunshine

Ready to hang, my piece that was a finalist in the Feel Good Art Show at Quadrant Gallery.

Sunshine is a small piece that expresses the hope that rises when that warm red glows behind the lids as sunshine hits the closed eye. Especially in spring as the hints of heat bring the promise of summer.
I practiced this piece with watercolour, ink and gouache before arriving at this final. Achieving an impasto style with gouache is a new and developing skill for me; it resulted in a piece that captures the warmth I wished to express.

WilhelminaM is an emerging artist experimenting with gouache, ink sketch and watercolour. Born in The Netherlands, grew up in nipaluna/Hobart and now resides on Boonwurrung country in Southeast Melbourne. She is self taught and currently paints and sketches still life, landscapes, portraits and figures; and would love time for ceramics and sculpture. WilhelminaM’s still life work explores time, silence, simplicity and pause through the interplay of light, shadow and form. Her portraits explore complexity. Her landscapes, scenes and figures capture experiences and memories. WilhelminaM also uses watercolour and ink sketches for surface design and has had a few of her fabric designs licensed for apparel.
