William Malcolm’s first stirrings as an artist came at the early age of 15 when he began work with an abstract artist who, noting William’ Innate gift, introduced him to the world of vibrant abstract colour and shape that is the essence of modern art and language of William’s heart.
Heavily influenced by Abstract Expressionist American artist Jackson Pollock and Jonas Gerard, William soon began his own long journey of discovery and experimentation.
An artist to the core, William has been blessed with not only the gift of painting ,but is also a much celebrated musical talent. During his early years, William worked alongside many of the great musical names of the 20th Century.
Notwithstanding, throughout his journey performing around the globe, he remained dedicated to his expressive roots and returned again and again to the canvas.
Trained at the now famous, Sydney Art School opened by Julian Ashton, the “Grand Old Man of Australian Art whose name was included in the schools title when he passed at the great age of 96.It is regarded universally in the art world as “The Julian Ashton Art School”, with influences now seen throughout Australis and overseas.
William has excepted a number of commissions from corporations where his work now adorns boardrooms, but he is equally in demand by small but growing cadre of interior decorators and designers across Australia.
In March, 2012 William was invited to enter his paintings in the Chelsea International Fine arts Competition held at the Agora Gallery In New York. This is a renowned art competition that is juried by prominent museum curators and art experts and requires qualification of an artist work on the basis of a portfolio review.
His exceptional use of colour and movement in his paintings is absolutely amazing and impressive in every way.
He is in very high demand for his work as a commission artist as he listens to what is required and delivers in every detail.
