Artwork Description

As war tears through Ukraine, parents and children are being separated, loved ones are saying goodbye to each other, not knowing whether they will see each other again... The figures in the mist are getting a little washed away, as their lives flutter in the uncertainty of their future. This work was originally titled "The interrupted thought", as the malleable shapes alternate with each other in a wave of uncertainty. But the emerging figures (large and small) looking at each other kept returning me to the images of father saying goodbye to their children.

Artist Bio

Hi there!

I am a Brisbane-based artist, working in acrylic and watercolour media. I am also a curator and an art historian, and my art practice gives me a better understanding of the struggles of the artists that I research and write about.

The aim of my art is to show the world from a different perspective. My acrylics are an expression of colour, mood and personality. I love textures and any stylistic devices that allow bending the perception available through art. My watercolour painting is a way of zooming into imperfections. Rusty roofs, dirty bricks, and irregularity in landscapes help us find the beautiful around us.

I think artists throughout centuries used their skills to challenge their audiences' perception. I hope to move the audiences with my art, and to touch something intrinsically human inside them.
