Artwork Description

This piece, titled Gate of the Deep Forest, explores the mysterious threshold between the known and the unknown in nature. Using a degummed monoprint technique with peach gum and gum arabic, the artwork captures organic textures reminiscent of moss, bark, and filtered light through dense foliage. The central luminous opening suggests a portal inviting viewers to step into an imagined forest realm. Influenced by abstract expressionism and natural forms, the work balances control and chance, allowing the interaction of water-based adhesives and pigments to create spontaneous, layered effects.

Artist Bio

I am currently studying Visual Arts (double major) as part of my Master of Teaching at Monash University in Melbourne. With a strong foundation in art theory and practice, I have developed a deep artistic sensibility and technical skill. My recent work focuses on degummed painting, a unique and experimental printmaking method that explores the textures and organic forms of nature. Through this process, I aim to evoke quiet emotion and poetic abstraction. I am passionate about visual storytelling and continually expanding my creative language through research and hands-on studio practice.
