Void explores the quiet space between presence and absence. Soft layers of blush, warm neutrals and muted earth tones dissolve into expressive, fragmented marks, creating a landscape that feels familiar yet impossible to place.

The work does not depict a specific location. Instead, it emerges somewhere between memory and imagination — like a place once known, slowly fading from view. Areas of openness and stillness are contrasted with denser, textured passages, inviting the viewer to move between clarity and uncertainty.

For me, Void is about the beauty of what cannot be fully held onto: a memory, a place, a feeling — present for a moment, then gone.

YUGUO is a Sydney-based emerging artist whose work explores the quiet space between presence and absence, memory and imagination.

With a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Honours) and a Master of Design from UNSW Sydney, her approach to painting is shaped by a strong sensitivity to space, composition, colour and atmosphere. Her background in landscape architecture and design continues to influence the way she constructs visual environments—balancing structure with intuition, and the tangible with the imagined.

Working primarily with oil on canvas, YUGUO creates atmospheric abstract paintings through layers of soft colour, expressive brushwork and textured marks. Her palette often moves between warm neutrals, muted blush tones, earthy browns and subtle touches of light, creating dreamlike spaces that feel both familiar and undefined.

Rather than depicting a specific place, her paintings exist somewhere between landscape, memory and abstraction. They invite the viewer to pause, imagine and discover their own meaning within the work.

Her current practice explores themes of stillness, impermanence, memory, and the beauty found in what remains unseen.
