Artwork Description

I am very excited to announce a new series ( AKA a new passion) Its called "HOME."
I have been revisiting my past in my current Uni studies and it has brought to life the parts of my life I most valued when I was alot younger. These qualities live with me today but I never realised how much until now!!
One of those qualities is LIGHT!! I grew up in a dark , damp, very old home and the places I lived in when I moved away were consistently dim and quite run down. I had never stepped into a newish home til I was in my thirties. Now every home I live in, I remove all the curtains, never have furniture in front of the windows, have no blinds and usually end up painting everything white or cream to reflect more light!! It's become an obession.
I do appreciate the aesthetics of old places, their character, but in an ideal world, they would be clean, dry and full of light, of life.
And so, this led to "HOME".
The circular shape of all , in the series is deliberate. To me a rectangle describes a room ; a circle describes an experience. They aren't really paintings of rooms. They're paintings of what home feels like, glimpses recalled from memory rather than direct observations.
The first one is called "HOME 4.36PM". I couldnt remember many bathrooms being the subject of paintings so decided to go there first, pretty much as I would if I came home at 4.36PM.

Artist Bio

Yvonne Wells has always followed a path of creative pursuits and now moves between two creative places- painting and drawing Her paintings are opulent, dramatic and intensely colourful, while her drawings are conversely, free , light and quite subtle.

Yvonne is inspired by the drama and earthy tones of old Renaissance paintings. Her paintings , however , are intensely coloured, hyper exposed, organic images that drift out of the darkness. Her drawings focus more on wildlife both here in Australia and overseas.

She is a curious artist and dabbles in many mediums and techniques. "Creating luscious , rich coloured paintings and drawings that vibrate with life, is always a joy for the soul. "

Yvonne enjoys the process of creating all of her works. The excitement she feels when inspired by the subject matter, buoys her through those challenging times of a painting when all looks lost, only to find with persistence that it was there all along. Yvonne has also created works through commissions on canvas , on paper and as murals ( wallart).

Her past pieces can be found on her website.
