Artwork Description

Some flowers invite admiration from a distance. Others ask us to come closer.

The Soft Centre explores what happens when we move beyond the familiar shape of a bloom and into its hidden architecture. As each petal folds over another, the flower becomes almost unrecognisable—less a botanical study and more an abstract landscape of curves, light and shadow.

Painted in layers of warm rose, blush and crimson, the work celebrates the quiet beauty found in slowing down and paying attention. The spiralling form draws the eye inward, suggesting both the unfolding of a flower and the unfolding of our own inner world.

This painting grew from my fascination with looking closely at the natural world. I love those moments when an ordinary flower reveals an extraordinary complexity—forms we rarely notice because we pass them by too quickly. Painting it became an exercise in observation, colour and pure enjoyment. It also satisfied, for a while at least, my longing to immerse myself in every imaginable shade of pink.

Designed to be displayed either vertically or horizontally, The Soft Centre offers flexibility while creating a calm, contemporary statement in any space.

Artist Bio

Yvonne Wells has always followed a path of creative pursuits and now moves between two creative places- painting and drawing Her paintings are opulent, dramatic and intensely colourful, while her drawings are conversely, free , light and quite subtle.

Yvonne is inspired by the drama and earthy tones of old Renaissance paintings. Her paintings , however , are intensely coloured, hyper exposed, organic images that drift out of the darkness. Her drawings focus more on wildlife both here in Australia and overseas.

She is a curious artist and dabbles in many mediums and techniques. "Creating luscious , rich coloured paintings and drawings that vibrate with life, is always a joy for the soul. "

Yvonne enjoys the process of creating all of her works. The excitement she feels when inspired by the subject matter, buoys her through those challenging times of a painting when all looks lost, only to find with persistence that it was there all along. Yvonne has also created works through commissions on canvas , on paper and as murals ( wallart).

Her past pieces can be found on her website.
