Artwork Description

'Follow The River' is one of a series of work exploring the theme of journey and traveling. Painted in the studio after collecting photographs on site, this work has been created using a more impressionistic style. There are parts of the NSW countryside that are breathtakingly beautiful and this is one of them. I was inspired by a family holiday to the Tumut region and painted this after a clear winter day. Many of my paintings explore roads, tracks and rivers as they disappear off into the distance. I relate this to our lives as we can often see what is just ahead of us but often no further. It has been signed on the right hand corner. It has been varnished with artists retouch varnish. This painting would look lovely in your home and would brighten a room.

Artist Bio

Thank you for taking the time to look through my artwork. I have loved painting and printmaking since I was a teen and come from a very creative family. I love to experiment with mediums and styles but am always drawn to bright colour. I enjoy the Australian landscape and paint more expressionistically within that subject but I also love straight lines and buildings in which I usually paint in watercolour or print using linocut.

I have been painting for over 30 years and have enjoyed many different mediums but I am particularly drawn to linocut and oil painting . I also enjoy watercolour for smaller illustrations. After some early certificate level training after high school, I spent a year in West Africa teaching kids art and was inspired to further my studies. I gained a BA Arts (painting) and graduated in March 2005. I am a Christian and a Pastor's wife and love to teach art to both adults and children.

My influences include the Australian Impressionists, especially Arthur Streeton and the work of Turner but I am particularly inspired by portrait artists including Evert Ploeg and Nora Heyson. I am strongly influenced by our road trip travels as a family across Australia and the theme of the road or pathway is recurring across my work.

My art journey continues as I explore portrait themes and the use of symbols found in nature alongside maps and the figure. I am particularly taken with seedpods and their symbol of life and renewal.
