Original Artwork's Description

Going to school in the Western Australian bush I saw wattle on a daily basis during flowering season. I was drawn to painting the bright yellows of the wattle after spending time in the NSW Australian bush recently. This painting is one of a series of wattle inspired pieces. Creating this sort of work takes a lot of time and patience as I individually add each part of the wattle flowers. This painting has been varnished with artists retouch varnish and is signed in the bottom right hand corner. I am happy to take commissions on artwork in this series. Wattle is a beautiful part of the Australian outdoors and this painting will brighten up your room.

Artist Bio

Thank you for taking the time to look through my artwork. I have loved painting and printmaking since I was a teen and come from a very creative family. I love to experiment with mediums and styles but am always drawn to bright colour. I enjoy the Australian landscape and paint more expressionistically within that subject but I also love straight lines and buildings in which I usually paint in watercolour or print using linocut.

I have been painting for over 30 years and have enjoyed many different mediums but I am particularly drawn to linocut and oil painting . I also enjoy watercolour for smaller illustrations. After some early certificate level training after high school, I spent a year in West Africa teaching kids art and was inspired to further my studies. I gained a BA Arts (painting) and graduated in March 2005. I am a Christian and a Pastor's wife and love to teach art to both adults and children.

My influences include the Australian Impressionists, especially Arthur Streeton and the work of Turner but I am particularly inspired by portrait artists including Evert Ploeg and Nora Heyson. I am strongly influenced by our road trip travels as a family across Australia and the theme of the road or pathway is recurring across my work.

My art journey continues as I explore portrait themes and the use of symbols found in nature alongside maps and the figure. I am particularly taken with seedpods and their symbol of life and renewal.
