I have been making art since before I was conscious that it even was art. I have always felt a deep sense of calm and reflection when Iβm painting, almost like it takes me to another realm, wherein I can explore ideas freely without the constraints of my conscious mind.
I love to use mixed media on canvas and mainly use acrylic paint. I sometimes use oil paints, watercolours pastels and various pens and pencils. Iβm based in Sydney. I learnt to make art formally in high school and later at some courses at COFA when I did my university degree however I consider myself a self-taught artist because my style and techniques are those that I developed myself.
What I am trying to achieve with my art is to bring a sense of the non-linear, unconscious aspect of life into full view and celebrate the ambiguous, the fluid and feminine ways of thinking and experiencing life, escaping the ridged and known. The subject matter is unconscious interplay of forces. There is no definite or definable subject matter. I hope the viewer finds meaning in my art.
My creative process begins generally with creating spontaneous gestural lines and patterns directly drawn on canvas, then I deeply focus or alternatively completely relax and allow the images to emerge. The aesthetic seems to reveal itself in the process. I seek inspiration from the patterns, symbols and meanings of life. Painting is a way of both engaging with and escaping from life. It reconciles life experiences into symbolic forms, if those firms are chaotic or overwhelming that is a reflection on life. Being able to sit with the ambiguity of forms and accept uncertainty is my aim.
