MacMillan Black is a nod to my Scottish heritage and the history of tartans. To me this history is reflected in the story of art and self expression and connection. This series of work is constructed and composed by adding layers of colour using various tools and brushstrokes to create texture with a strong focus on direction thus giving the strokes a warp and a weft. The coloured layers hold memory and respond to light and movement, creating a dynamic interaction with the viewer.
