This is the second in a series of paintings of a good friend of mine from Margaret River, WA. She is a super keen surfer, diver and underwater photographer. Ruby allows me to use her beautiful photos as reference for my work and it is always one of my favourite subjects to paint.
The ocean, its colours, reflections, light, shapes and movement is an obsession of mine. I especially love the reflections made from underneath the surface when a figure is placed in the water, clearly seen in this painting. I have made the middle ground in this piece a lot darker to add mystery and interest.
